The other day, a friend asked me a question that stopped me in my tracks: “What does surrender look like?”
I had to sit with that one for a while. Because surrender isn’t always easy to explain, and it isn’t always easy to live out. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized—surrender is not just a feeling. It’s an action.
Surrender is obedience. It’s choosing to say yes to God when a door opens, even if you can’t see what’s on the other side. It’s walking forward in faith when the “how” doesn’t make sense.
Surrender looks like apologizing when God nudges your heart, even if you didn’t mean to hurt someone. It looks like forgiving when you’d rather stay bitter. It looks like trusting when fear tells you to hold back.
Surrender happens in those small, everyday moments—the ones where a decision must be made. Do I obey, or do I go my own way? Do I trust God right here, right now, or do I cling to control?
Those are the moments that shape the direction of our lives. And while surrender might feel like giving something up, it’s actually the moment God steps in to do what only He can do.
The truth is, when we resist, life gets harder. But when we surrender—when we choose to listen, obey, and trust—God meets us with grace. He takes our obedience and turns it into blessing, not because of who we are, but because of who He is.
So maybe surrender looks different for each of us. But I believe at its core, surrender is this: a heart that says yes to God in the present moment, even when it’s not easy.
And friend, that “yes” can change everything.
