When You Think Nothing Is Changing, You Are
There’s something I’ve been thinking about lately.
Sometimes when you think nothing is changing, you are.
Let me explain…
Maybe God Is Preparing You in Ways You Don't See
I’ve been writing some messages to share about our new school year, and as I was putting my thoughts together, I realized just how different I feel going into this year.
We homeschool, and if you homeschool, you know that every school year looks a little different. Add running a business, managing a home, and all the other things life brings, and there are plenty of days that don’t go according to plan.
But this year, I feel better equipped for the chaos.
Not because our schedule is more organized.
Not because I have everything figured out.
But because my husband and I have changed so much.
Over the summer, we grew in ways I didn’t really realize at the time. We learned, stretched, surrendered, and came to a deeper understanding of what matters most.
We’ve really settled into this truth:
Our family is the most important part of everything we do.
That should go without saying, shouldn’t it?
But there is a difference between knowing that it should be that way and actually living it that way.
And it’s what makes everything else work.
The Lesson I Didn't Know I Needed
Honestly, I didn’t realize that would be the lesson that prepared me the most for this school year.
Out of all the things I thought I needed to learn this summer, I didn’t expect that God would spend so much time changing my heart and my perspective.
But isn’t that just like Him?
Sometimes we think nothing is happening.
We think we’re standing still.
We wonder why God hasn’t changed the circumstances, fixed the situation, or given us the answer we’ve been waiting for.
And all the while, He’s changing us.
He’s working behind the scenes.
He’s softening our hearts.
Changing our perspective.
Teaching us what really matters.
Preparing us for something we can’t see yet.
The Little Things Become the Big Things
And I’m so thankful for the little things He teaches us along the way.
Because sometimes those little things turn out to be the biggest things.
A lesson we thought was just for one season becomes something we carry into the next.
A conversation changes the way we see our family.
A hard season teaches us how to love better.
A little bit more surrender gives God a little more room to work.
We don’t always recognize what God is doing while He’s doing it.
Sometimes we only see the purpose of a lesson when we find ourselves standing in a completely different season and realize, Oh… this is why I needed to learn that.
Give God the Pen
I’m learning that I don’t want to fight so hard to write my own story.
I want to give Him the pen.
I want to trust Him with the pages I can’t see yet and believe that even when it feels like nothing is changing, He is still working.
And maybe, just maybe, the biggest change happening isn’t around you at all.
Maybe it’s happening in you.
As we step into another school year, I’m incredibly thankful for that reminder.
Here’s to the messy days, the changed plans, the full schedules, the unexpected moments, and trusting that God is using every single one of them.
He’s working, even when we can’t see it.
And sometimes, the thing He’s changing most is us.
