When God Gives You the Chance to Rewrite the Story

Have you ever found yourself facing something you thought you had already dealt with?

Something from your past suddenly comes back around, and your first thought is, “Why is this happening again?”

Over the past year, God has brought my husband and me back to some things in our lives that we didn't handle very well the first time.

And honestly, there were moments when we both wondered why we were having to face some of these things again.

But we've started to look at it differently.

Maybe God wasn't bringing those situations back so we could relive them.

Maybe He was giving us the opportunity to rewrite them.

You're Not Going Backward

Sometimes revisiting something from your past can feel like you're stuck.

You think, “I thought I was past this.”

But what if you're not actually going backward?

What if you're being given an opportunity to finally move past it?

The situation may look familiar, but you aren't the same person you were the first time you faced it.

You've grown.

You've learned.

You've walked through hard things with God.

And now you have the opportunity to see that growth in action.

Growth isn't always something you feel. Sometimes it's something you notice when you realize you're no longer responding the way you used to.

It Boils Down to Trusting God

At the heart of all of this was one simple thing:

Trusting God.

Trusting that He is bigger than the problem in front of me.

Trusting that He is still good when things feel messy.

Trusting that He is faithful even when I don't understand what He's doing.

It's so easy to let difficult circumstances become bigger in our minds than the God who is standing beside us through them.

That's why Scripture tells us to put on the armor of God and to take our thoughts captive.

We don't have to entertain every fearful thought that enters our minds.

We don't have to follow every dark thought to its worst possible ending.

We can stop.

We can pray.

We can remember.

We can choose to trust instead of react and fear.

Maybe This Is Part of the Healing

I'm not going to tell you that revisiting things from the past is fun.

It isn't. It actually really sucks.

But I believe God gives us the opportunity to respond differently.

It's a chance to finally recognize that the thing that once had such a hold on you doesn't have the same power anymore.

Because when you handle something differently than you did before, that's progress.

That's measurable growth.

That's evidence of God's work.

You Don't Have to Go Down the Same Road

If you're currently facing something from your past again, I want to encourage you not to immediately assume you're going backward.

Maybe you're being given a chance to rewrite the story and this time you get to respond with wisdom instead of reacting out of fear.

Maybe this time you get to trust God instead of trying to control the outcome.

My husband and I used to ask, “Why is this happening again?”

Now, we're learning to ask a different question:

“What is God giving us the opportunity to do differently this time?”

That question changes everything.

Maybe this isn't a setback but a chance to finally move on.

Face it, and move forward.
