This morning started with a project we had been putting off for far too long.
Our two boys were out in the yard, pulling everything out of our shed—piece by piece, box by box—until what had once been tucked neatly behind a closed door was suddenly scattered across the grass. I stood there taking it all in, and honestly… it felt overwhelming.
The mess was everywhere.
What once looked “fine” from the outside had completely unraveled. Piles of forgotten things. Dust-covered boxes. Items we hadn’t used in years. Things we didn’t even remember keeping.
And yet, we knew—everything had to come out.
Because you can’t truly clean, reorganize, or make space for what matters… until everything is brought into the light.
Finding God in the Mess
As I stood there, it hit me—this is exactly how God works in our lives.
Sometimes, God allows things to feel messy before He brings clarity.
He begins pulling things out of the hidden corners of our hearts. Things we’ve tucked away. Things we’ve avoided. Things that no longer serve us—but still take up space.
Old wounds. Old habits. Old mindsets.
Even things we once thought we needed just to get through.
And when it all rises to the surface?
It feels overwhelming.
Exposing.
Uncomfortable.
Maybe even a little scary.
Because sometimes that “junk” feels familiar… and familiar can feel safe.
Trusting God in Difficult Seasons
There was a moment today where I looked at the piles and thought, “What if we just threw it all away?”
Of course, we didn’t (we definitely needed the lawn mower).
But it made me wonder…
Is that how God sees the clutter in our hearts?
Not with frustration—but with clarity.
He knows what stays.
He knows what goes.
He knows what was useful for a season—but isn’t meant to come with us into the next one.
And if I’m honest, this is where trust comes in.
Because when we’re in control, we decide what to keep.
But when God steps in, we’re asked to trust His hands instead of our own.
Gentle hands.
Skilled hands.
Hands that say, “You don’t need this anymore.”
Hands that promise, “I have more for you—but we have to make space first.”
Spiritual Growth Through Life’s Messy Seasons
In this season, I can see it clearly—God is moving.
He’s pruning. He’s cleaning. He’s shifting things around.
And it hasn’t felt peaceful.
It’s felt like mess and mayhem.
But I’m starting to understand something:
The mess isn’t the problem.
It’s part of the process.
First comes the pulling out.
Then the sorting.
Then the letting go.
Then the deep clean.
Then the reorganization.
And eventually… the peace of something made new.
Some seasons of growth take longer than others.
Some things are harder to let go of than we expected.
But none of it is wasted.
When God Is Changing Your Life
What I’m choosing to focus on isn’t the mess in front of me—
It’s the finished work I know is coming.
The clean space.
The fresh start.
The room for something better.
Because the truth is… I asked for this.
When I prayed for growth… for change… for God to move in big ways in our life—I was asking for transformation.
I just didn’t realize how messy it would feel in the middle of it.
But real change doesn’t happen without change.
And sometimes… it starts with a dump run.
